Discover Self‑Employment: Here’s What You Need To Know
Thinking about working for yourself but unsure of the rules?
About the event
In this session we demystify self-employment, explaining registration, taxes and benefits in plain English and signposting where to get help.
Perfect for people still in education, caring for family or considering a change in life.
This session is about clarity, not commitment. It is designed to help you understand the basics without being overwhelmed by jargon or complex systems.
We break down what self-employment looks like day to day, how it can work alongside benefits or part-time work, and what support is available locally.
By the end, you will have a realistic understanding of your options and be better equipped to decide whether self-employment could suit your current situation or future plans.
This workshop is part of a series of business support sessions aimed at people who are economically inactive, meaning they are not currently in work and not actively looking for a job.
This may include people who are long term sick or disabled, carers, parents without access to childcare, students who are not working, early retirees, or those facing barriers such as confidence, transport, or digital access.
Some participants may receive benefits, others may not, but all are considered outside the active labour market.
Don’t worry if you don’t fit into the categories above, you’re still welcome to join us!
This workshop is brought to you as part of Go Succeed NI. Go Succeed represents a significant investment in local entrepreneurs and businesses, funded by the UK Government.
